Private label lets importers and retailers sell Egyptian produce under their own brand: printed cartons, bags, punnets, labels and stickers. It builds brand value and customer loyalty, but it requires two approvals — the product and the printed pack — and good planning.
1. Define the product specification
Your brand promise depends on consistent product. Agree variety, size, grade, net weight and tolerances in writing, exactly as for any programme. Your specification should be the reference for both packing and complaints.
2. Prepare the artwork brief
- Brand files and colour references
- Label language(s) for the destination
- Mandatory information: product, class, origin, net weight, packer, lot
- Barcode (EAN/GTIN) data
- Recycling or certification logos you are entitled to use
Name one person on each side who signs off the final proof.
3. Minimums and lead times
Printed cartons, bags and punnets have minimum print quantities and lead times that depend on the material and printing method. Confirm these for your specific design before the season. Plan for the cost of leftover printed stock if forecasts change.
4. Pack formats that work well
| Product | Private-label format |
|---|---|
| Citrus | Printed cartons, net bags, fruit stickers, wrap tissue |
| Strawberries, grapes | Punnets and clamshells with top labels |
| Carrots, potatoes, onions | Printed retail bags and mesh bags |
| Frozen products | Printed retail bags and cartons |
5. Approve with a sample
Before the first production, approve a physical sample of the packed product. Check print quality, colours, barcode scanning and how the pack looks on the pallet and on the shelf.
6. Keep it consistent
Run the programme on a season calendar, with forecasts shared in advance. Review arrival quality and consumer feedback together and adjust the specification before the next season.
